Jackal Berry Tree

The Jackal Berry Tree is found through out Africa. One of its adaptations are can be found growing on the top of termite mounds. The roots provide protection for the termites and the termites don't eat the wood because they don't eat living wood. That is symbiotic relationship.They are commonly found in swamps and river beds. The jackal berry tree can grow up to 80 feet tall and the circumference of the trunk 16 feet! It got its name because the seeds of the fruit have been found in Jackals dung. It is significant to the Savanna because it does not grow any where else. The jackal berry tree is not in danger of being extinct.

Whistling Thorn

The Whistling Thorn is found mostly in east Africa. It is a acacia. It can grow up to 18 feet tall and the thorns can be up to 3 inches long. The circle that the thorns are home to 4 different kinds of stinging ants.They don't know what kind of relationship it is. The ants pierce the bulb and when the wind blows it makes a whistling noise and that is why it is called a whistling thorn.  It is significant to this biome because it home to the stinging ants.
