Emu

Dromaius novaehollandiae

Adult emus are about 7.5 feet tall and 110-120 pounds. Even though they have wings they can't fly! The female emus lay 5-20 eggs at a time and they start mating at only 18 months old! It takes around 2 months for the baby to hatch. Emus used to be able to fly but they lost the ability when there wasn't any predators so they didn't have to fly anymore. They are significant to savannas because they are really cool and you can only find them in Australia. They are not endangered but they might be in the future because farmers kill them because they say kill their crops.
